Practical Electrical Safety Checks for Your Workplace

Portable electrical equipment takes a lot of wear. Leads get pulled, power boards get overloaded and tools get dropped, and the damage is not always visible from the outside.

Hudson Electrical provides test and tag across the Central Coast for businesses, workshops, offices and property owners. Our licensed electricians inspect and test your portable appliances and leads to AS/NZS 3760, then tag each item so its status is clear to everyone who uses it.

We schedule testing around your operations where we can, so your team can keep working. When the visit is finished, you have clear records of what was tested and the result for each item.

What’s Included in a Test and Tag Service?

A visit covers the portable electrical equipment used in your workplace, from power tools to kitchen appliances. The scope depends on the equipment you have and how it is used. A typical service includes:

  • visual inspection of appliances, plugs and leads for damage
  • electrical testing of each item to confirm it is safe to use
  • testing of power boards and extension leads
  • testing of portable safety switches where they are in use
  • tagging each item with the test date and next due date
  • removing failed items from use and marking them clearly
  • a record of every item tested and its result

‍

If an item fails, we explain why and talk through the options, which may include repair or replacement. Nothing extra goes ahead until you have agreed to it.

Who Needs Test and Tag?

Any workplace where people use plug-in equipment can benefit from regular testing. You should book test and tag if:

  • you run an office, shop, café or warehouse with plug-in equipment
  • your team uses power tools or extension leads in a workshop or on site
  • you hire out equipment or supply it to tenants
  • an item has a damaged lead, cracked plug or loose casing
  • tags on your equipment are missing, unreadable or overdue
  • you have bought second-hand equipment and want it checked
  • you are setting up a new workplace or adding equipment
  • an insurer, client or site manager has asked for testing records

‍

How often equipment should be tested depends on the item and the environment it is used in. AS/NZS 3760 sets out recommended intervals, and we can help you build a sensible schedule. Any item that is damaged or behaving oddly should be taken out of use straight away, whatever date is on its tag.

Test and Tag for Offices, Shops and Cafés

Customer-facing businesses often have more portable equipment than they realise. Kettles, heaters, fans, monitors, chargers, coffee machines and extension leads all add up, and many sit behind counters or under desks where no one looks at them closely.

We work through your premises room by room and test everything that plugs in. Because the work is done on site, it is easy to fit around opening hours.

Test and Tag for Workshops and Job Sites

Tools used in workshops and on job sites are exposed to dust, moisture, heat and rough handling. Leads are dragged across concrete and rolled up while still warm, so damage tends to build quickly.

We test power tools, extension leads, portable lighting and other plug-in equipment in these environments. Testing in tougher conditions is usually needed more often than in an office, so we can recommend a schedule that suits how your equipment is really used.
